Happy Friday!

New pic

Hello Friday!

It has been a good week – busy but I’ve ticked a lot off my to-do list and now I’m counting down the hours until 4:00pm.

My gratitude list this week includes:

  • A wonderful time in Langebaan over the weekend.  We came back feeling super relaxed.
  • A clean home – always feel so much more organised when we come home after a busy day and everything is clean and tidy.
  • Clean, fresh sheets.  I slept SO well this week.
  • A crisp glass of wine after a long day.
  • My mantra for November.  “You do you and I’ll do me”.  I’m sick of happiness vampires who cannot be happy for others.  Kept thinking this phrase a few days ago when hubby and I shared our weekend recap up the West Coast at a dinner.  We’d seen amazing birds and enjoyed being in nature before watching rugby and having a braai.  But because this didn’t involve our dinner companions we were met with some sour expressions and what I’ve come to expect: “The Look”.  I sat there happily tucking into my main course and refused to let them take anything away from my joy.

  1. I’ve come to realize that theee are just some people who will never be happy, and no matter what you do, you simply can’t please everyone. This is a fantastic phrase to keep as a mantra and I hope you learn to distance yourself from people who suck the joy out of your life. You don’t need that in your life!

Also yay for clean sheets and a clean home. We have a layer of dust that the painters kicked up and I can’t wait to do a deep clean! Sending you all my love and hope you have a wonderful weekend, my sweet friend!

    • Charlotte – you said it!
Hubby and I have been extremely generous to some big happiness vampires over the years and when that isn’t appreciated (and we are begrudged a fun weekend away) I find it disappointing. I shouldn’t expect anything less – I got the rudest comment last year when they heard I’d been given a watch by my hubby as a present. Both are incapable of being happy for us and I’ve just had enough pretending that is acceptable.

Hope you are getting stronger with each day and everything is going well in your new home. Hope you had a lovely weekend.

  2. Wow, that’s awful the people you were with couldn’t muster up any happiness for YOUR happiness. Some people are just awful like that. If it doesn’t pertain to them personally, they don’t care. It’s awful. I’m glad you had a really great week though! 🙂

    • It is such an unfortunate trait to have. The total inability to be happy for others. What really gets to me is that hubby and I have been generous to them over the years. My husband spent a lot on a weekend away he treated them to with a couple years ago. They are all for the taking and there is zero giving. Ever. Then when we treat ourselves to something nice they openly begrudge it!

  3. Fresh, clean sheets are just the best especially after a day of cleaning the house and doing laundry. I love your mantra for this month.

  4. Clean fresh sheets are THE BEST. And so is a crisp glass of wine. I’m already looking forward to one when I get home tonight, lol. I hope you had a great weekend and that your week is going well so far!
